The iSeries Video Capture & Recording System
ETEXTEND/VCR, the comprehensive Video Capture & Recording system, makes on-line training and software documentation as easy as displaying a screen. VCR enables you to record any series of iSeries screens, depicting the "real-time" execution of a software application. VCR is not a PC-based product and does not require additional hardware, software or PC expertise. Rather, VCR is a native tool written especially for the iSeries.

With VCR, you can create training simulations by recording iSeries screen images; customizing the recording through the use of storylines and dialog boxes; and enabling playback. These recordings give a realistic, undaunted, working view of iSeries software applications without the need for accessing and running the actual application. VCR is the perfect tool for creating:

  • On-line Tutorials

  • Demonstrations

  • Training Sessions

  • Presentations

  • Prototyping Tools

  • Documentation

  •

Now, with VCR, you can easily present or demonstrate your own iSeries software applications. You can consistently train users, as often as needed, without an instructor present. You can produce accurate written documentation including actual screen images of all your applications.

No more screen prints into data base files; downloading information to PC’s; embedding screens into text documents; or redefining screen attributes like underline, bold, or colors. All this and more is provided automatically with EXTEND/VCR.

  1. Recording
  2. With VCR, you can record any series of iSeries screens showing the actual execution of an application function. VCR supports both 24 x 80 and 27 x132 screen sizes and retains all screen attributes including color, high intensity, reverse image, underline, column separators, and blink. In addition, storylines and dialog boxes can be added to provide instructions and enhance the presentation of the recording.

  3. Playback
  4. Recordings can be played back either at their pre-defined speed, or interactively where the audience controls the pace of the playback. VCR gives each viewer full control during playback, by offering rewind, fast forward, pause, frame advance, frame backward, play, stop and bookmark capabilities.

  5. Networking
  6. Recordings created using VCR can be distributed to any number of remote iSeries using either SNADS or the save/restore utilities provided in VCR.

  7. Developer's Version
  8. The optional EXTEND/VCR Developer’s Version enables software developers, to create recordings showing the functions and features of their own software products. Recordings created by developers can be used as demonstrations, on-line tutorials, or training simulations. In addition, developers can package and distribute these recordings, along with the VCR playback run-time module, to an unlimited number of their customers.
